HOPE – Two women in Hope were arrested this past week after they allegedly assaulted two RCMP members while “highly intoxicated.”

According to a statement from Upper Fraser Valley RCMP spokesperson Corporal Carmen Kiener, police were called to an unnamed bar in Hope after getting reports of a woman who tried to fight other patrons.

When police arrived, one woman assaulted an officer while a second woman assaulted another officer. Corporal Kiener says both women were found to be highly intoxicated and were subsequently arrested.

Once they sobered up, the two women were later released once sober and issued provincial violation tickets under the Liquor Control Act.

In other notable incidents for the week of Monday, May 4 through Sunday, May 10, an officer conducted a traffic stop after witnessing a vehicle display an incorrect licence plate. The driver, who is apparently well known to police, was observed to have illegal tobacco in plain view. A subsequent search revealed drug paraphernalia, and the driver admitted to consuming drugs within the previous hour. Roadside testing resulted in a 24-hour driving suspension. The vehicle was towed due to multiple safety defects, and several traffic violation tickets were issued.

Mounties investigated a pair of break and enters, including an incident where two unknown men reportedly broke into a smoke shop on Silverview Road and stole numerous items. In the other break and enter, officers in Boston Bar received a report of a break and enter at a landfill. Unknown suspects entered the property and stole a significant amount of recycling materials.

Police received a report of a vehicle that had been damaged on Raab Street. The vehicle’s fuel line was severed and a bucket was found collecting fuel from the tank. Officers attended the area, however, the unknown suspect had fled prior to police arrival and was not located.
