CHILLIWACK – Multiple police officers attended the 7100 block of Maitland Avenue, just south of Wells Road, Friday morning in Sardis as part of an ongoing investigation.

In response to an inquiry from Fraser Valley Today about the nature of the police presence, Chilliwack RCMP spokesperson Corporal Carmen Kiener confirmed a search warrant was executed.

“The Chilliwack RCMP Serious Crimes Unit is there executing a search warrant to further an investigation from last weekend,” Cpl. Kiener said in an email. “No one has been charged in this matter and due to the nature of the investigation, I’m not in a position to share any further information at this time.”

A Chilliwack resident working in the area told Fraser Valley Today she saw one person detained in the back of a police unit at approximately 8:15 a.m. Friday morning.

If the search warrant is indeed to connected to the violent assault on Wells Road last weekend, Chilliwack RCMP Serious Crimes Unit investigators have been seeking CCTV and/or dashcam footage, as well as information, from any members of the public who were near Wells Road and Vedder Road.

To recap, Chilliwack RCMP spokesperson Corporal Carmen Kiener says police were notified at approximately 2 a.m. Sunday morning (May 3) about two separate assaults that occurred within a short period of time and in close proximity to one another. The first assault occurred in the 45000 block of Wells Road west of Vedder Road. One adult male victim was located and treated for non‑life‑threatening injuries. The second assault occurred shortly afterward in the same area of Wells Road. A youth victim was transported to hospital with life‑threatening injuries.

The youth victim remains in critical condition, Corporal Kiener said Friday morning.
