AGASSIZ – Mounties in Agassiz say a woman was taken into custody for her own safety and well-being after police received multiple calls last week that a female was walking into traffic on Industrial Way in Agassiz.

According to a weekly recap from Upper Fraser Valley RCMP spokesperson Corporal Carmen Kiener, the incident happened on Tuesday, April 21.

Officers were able to locate the woman who demonstrated signs of intoxication. While RCMP members were attempting to ensure her safety as they attended, the woman became uncooperative and tried to flee the scene.

Corporal Kiener says the woman was safely taken into police custody for her own well‑being and held until she was able to care for herself. Fortunately, she was not injured and no vehicle collisions occurred as a result of her walking into traffic.

In another incident this past week, Agassiz RCMP members responded to a report on Friday, April 24 about a woman who allegedly frightening her neighbours and young children in an area near Harrison Lake by brandishing an edged weapon and causing property damage. Officers safely took the woman into custody. She was assessed for her well‑being and later released with a court appearance scheduled for a later date.

These two incidents were just some of the 65 calls for service that the Agassiz RCMP detachment fielded during the week of Monday, April 20 through to Sunday, April 26, according to data compiled by Corporal Carmen Kiener.
