POPKUM — Firefighters have tackled a scene on the side of Highway 1 after a semi-truck caught fire Saturday.

Witnesses first reported the incident eastbound, near the Rosedale exit, at around 11:20 a.m.

Video from the scene shows fire crews working on what appears to be a detached Wastech industrial waste trailer, with smoke coming from its roof.

Scanner traffic later reported that a firefighter fell from a ladder while responding to the incident, and that Chilliwack fire crews from Hall 2 in Rosedale have been called to assist.

BCEHS has confirmed with Fraser Valley Today that a first responder at the scene needed medical assistance and was taken to hospital in stable condition.

There were no other patients requiring hospital transport.

A tow truck arrived shortly after noon.

Updates will be added as they become available.
