Motorcyclist crashes into vehicle after fleeing police in Surrey

Aug 7, 2026 | 12:13 PM

SURREY — B.C.’s police watchdog is now investigating after a motorcyclist tried to flee from Surrey police early Friday morning (Aug. 7).

At around 3:30 a.m., the Surrey Police Service says an officer tried to pull over a speeding motorcycle near the Trans-Canada Highway and the 104 Avenue offramp, but the rider instead went into oncoming traffic and crashed into a civilian vehicle.

Paramedics attended and took the rider to hospital for serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

The IIO was notified shortly after. Investigators will be trying to determine if the injury meets the threshold of serious harm as defined by the Police Act, and if the harm is connected to officer action or inaction.
