Chilliwack firefighters battle camper fire in driveway Saturday night (VIDEO)

CHILLIWACK – Chilliwack firefighters were called to a home on Chilliwack River Road Saturday night after a camper fire ignited in the driveway of a home.

According to scanner traffic, firefighters were called to 7488 Chilliwack River Road for an initial report of a vehicle fire at approximately 10:04 p.m. The call was then upgraded to a structure fire.

On arrival at about 10:10 p.m., firefighters located a camper fully involved with flames several feet high and smoke billowing into the Chilliwack night sky above the home.

Additional fire units were to stage on Knight Road near Canex Building Supplies Ltd.

Firefighters established a water supply within 2-3 minutes of their arrival, discharging a strong water stream. Fire crews had the fire knocked down promptly.

BC Hydro was asked to attend.

Firefighters radioed emergency dispatch to ask for an RCMP response. When dispatch asked if a routine response was satisfactory, firefighters confirmed it was.

At 10:22 p.m., firefighters radioed dispatch to say the fire was knocked down, a primary search had been completed, and Engine 1-2 crews could return to Firehall No. 1 (on Cheam Avenue).

At 10:40 p.m., firefighters told dispatch that a secondary search was completed, three RCMP units were on scene, and a BC EHS ambulance was on scene.

BC Hydro is now on scene as of approximately 10:45 p.m.
