Mission councillor urges residents to speak up against hospital service disruptions
MISSION — A city official is calling on residents to make their voices heard as the Mission Memorial Hospital continues to experience repeated emergency department closures.
Fraser Health recently announced reduced hours at the hospital’s urgent care this long weekend, from Wednesday to Monday, marking the third such announcement in 2026 alone.
“Access to emergency care isn’t a luxury, it’s something every Canadian should be able to count on,” said Mission City Councillor Jag Gill. “Framing these disruptions as temporary ‘adaptations’ does nothing to address the very real hardship our residents are facing or doesn’t make them less alarming.”
Gill is now encouraging residents to contact MLAs Reann Gasper or Lawrence Mok directly to share their experiences, or attend a Fraser Health board meeting in Mission on April 22, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Best Western on 32281 Lougheed Highway.
