Charge laid against Chilliwack man in fatal assault case

CHILLIWACK — An arrest has been made in a fatal assault case dating back to last month on Railway Avenue in Chilliwack.

RCMP says Kevin Procure was arrested and charged with one count of aggravated assault in relation to the February 21 incident. The Chilliwack resident remains in custody.

The victim of the assault, Dwight Nelson passed away nearly two weeks later on March 6.

Mounties say the cooperation of witnesses and nearby businesses was instrumental in identifying the accused.

Even with the arrest and charge, investigators say the investigation remains open. They are asking anyone with information on the event, who hasn’t already spoken with police, to come forward to speak with the Chilliwack RCMP at 604 792 4611 and reference file number 2026 9400.
