ABBOTSFORD — Residents and community leaders in Abbotsford have turned out for local seniors at a dedicated event early this month.

About 100 care professionals, elected officials and supporters gathered at The Reach Gallery Museum on March 5 for the Maplewood Community Reception, celebrating the people caring for Abbotsford seniors at the non-profit.

“Maplewood has built an impressive legacy of seniors care in Abbotsford,” said Mayor Ross Siemens. “Thanks to you, generations of Abbotsford seniors have been able to spend their golden years living with comfort and dignity as active members of our community.”

Siemens added that the creation of the Maplewood Care Foundation will expand support for seniors across the region.

The Foundation was publicly launched at the event, but it had been the agency’s charitable arm since 2024.

“This is a very caring community, and that’s why we are here tonight,” said BC seniors advocate Levitt. “We need to embrace aging as a good thing. […] What is happening here will show the province and communities beyond Canada what can be done to enable the well-being of seniors.”

Maplewood’s 34-bed MSA Manor and 76-bed Maplewood House opened in 1973 and 1989, respectively. Fraser Health funds all services and programs at the organization.
