MISSION — Residents may not have to travel too far to get select provincial services with the launch of a new pilot program in Mission.

ServiceBC has partnered with the City of Mission to deliver services such as vital statistics, pathfinding, business registries and more, available by walk-in or appointment at the Mission Leisure Centre.

“We are thrilled that Service BC is piloting this initiative at our Leisure Centre,” said Mayor Paul Horn. “It’s a big step forward for our growing community, reflecting the advocacy work Council has been doing to restore and enhance services right here at home.”

Anyone needing services can use their basic BC Services Card account or BCeID to book an appointment, while walk-ins would be able to come on a first-come, first-served basis on the afternoon of the scheduled pilot days.

The idea came from a conversation between council members and the Citizens’ Services Minister, Diana Gibson, at the recent UBCM convention in Victoria, in which councillors shared the community’s interest in getting more services locally.

“Bringing Service BC to people in Mission means people will be able to access the supports and programs they rely on conveniently closer to home and in person at their community leisure centre,” said Gibson.

“Congratulations to the City of Mission for this collaborative pilot project, which is a great way of bringing provincial services and resources to people where they live, work and play.”

Payments can be made through debit or credit.

The pilot dates are held on March 24, April 7 and 21, and May 5 and 19 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at 7650 Grand Street.
