RCMP confirm fatal collision involving dirt bike rider, SUV Tuesday near Merritt

MERRITT – Mounties in Merritt say they’re investigating a fatal collision involving a dirt bike and an SUV on Highway 8 late Tuesday afternoon.

According to a statement from B.C. RCMP spokesperson Corporal Brett Urano, Merritt RCMP was notified about a collision between a dirt bike and an SUV. Cpl. Urano says it was reported that that dirt bike rider had struck an SUV and the rider was tossed.

First responders located the rider with critical injuries and performed life-saving measures, however, the rider succumbed to their injuries at the scene. The driver of the SUV was treated on scene with minor injuries. 

Highway 8 was closed during the investigation to allow the BC RCMP Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service to examine the scene.

Police say the investigation is ongoing and police are asking anyone with information or dash camera footage to contact their local police.
