Chilliwack RCMP seize suspected illegal drugs, tobacco after reported break and enter

CHILLIWACK – Mounties in Chilliwack say they’ve seized a large quantity of suspected illicit drugs and illegal cigarettes after getting a report of a break and enter on the north side of town this past week.

According to a recap summarizing police activity for the week of Monday, February 23 to Sunday, March 1, police say a concerned neighbour contacted police to say two men had allegedly forced entry into a nearby home.

Frontline officers attended immediately and safely took both men into police custody, Chilliwack RCMP Cpl. Kiener said.

Chilliwack RCMP members initiated a check of the residence and located what they call a “large quantity” of suspected illicit drugs and illegal cigarettes. I

Police say that while it was learned that the men were allowed to be at the residence, the matter remains under investigation.

In other notable incidents this past week, police say a man was reported to be swinging a baseball bat in an aggressive manner on Yale Road.  Cpl. Kiener says the man was located by police nearby and arrested. After claiming to be a police officer, and giving three false names, police were able to confirm the man’s identity and discovered he had a warrant for his arrest. The man was held in custody for court.  The baseball bat, along drug paraphernalia, was seized and destroyed.

Police say staff at a local clothing store observed a man steal clothes and leave the store on foot. Police located and arrested the man shortly afterward. The stolen property was recovered and returned to the store. The suspect was released on conditions to not attend the store and given an upcoming court date. However, Cpl. Kiener says the suspect returned to the store a few hours later and stole further items before fleeing again. The man will now be looking at additional charges.

“It appears he was truly committed to building a coordinated wardrobe,” Cpl. Kiener noted.

These incidents were part of the 827 calls for service between Feb. 23 and Mar. 1, including:
