ABBOTSFORD — Abbotsford Police have launched an investigation into a police incident involving its own officers Saturday night (Nov. 26).

According to a news release issued by the Abbotsford Police Department Monday, police officials say the incident occurred following the Offspring concert at the Abbotsford Centre.

Police say officers were dealing with one individual when a member of the public interfered with the investigation. Police say the man failed to disengage with the investigation and the man was arrested for obstruction.

“During the arrest, the man continued to be non-compliant, resulting in the officer using force on him, striking him twice in the face before taking him into custody and placing him in handcuffs,” says the police news release.

Abbotsford police say officials are aware of a video documenting the event on social media and have confirmed the use of force against the individual is being investigated by the police department’s Professional Standards Section and that The Office of the Police Complaint Commissioner (OPCC) was notified on Sunday morning.

It says it will not make any further public comments while the investigation is underway.

It is asking anyone with information or video of the incident to contact the Abbotsford Police Department at 604 859-5225 and quote file number 2022-49281.
