CHILLIWACK — Environment Canada has forecasted rain totaling 10 millimeters to fall on Saturday (Nov. 26) throughout the day.

According to a weather forecast issued Friday (Nov. 25) by Environment Canada for the Chilliwack area, heavy rain is expected to taper off Friday afternoon before returning Saturday morning.

Rain is expected to begin Saturday morning and will be accompanied by wind gusts of up to 40 km/hour.

A winter storm watch is in effect for the Coquihalla (Highway 5) between Hope and Merritt, and on Highway 3 between Hope and Princeton via Allison Pass.

Environment Canada says a strong Pacific frontal system is forecast to move into the southern interior late Saturday bringing snow and strong winds. The snow will be heaviest Saturday night, especially for the coastal passes where accumulations of more than 20 cm are likely. Southwest winds gusting to 60 km/h will also create poor visibility in blowing snow.

Back in Chilliwack, Environment Canada is forecasting periods of snow will possibly fall on Tuesday, Nov. 29 and Wednesday, Nov. 30.
