ABBOTSFORD — The Abbotsford Chamber of Commerce recognized organizations in the city through the Abbotsford Business Excellence Awards show. The event took place last week (Nov. 17) at the Clarion Hotel and Conference Centre.

Archway Community Services, a large non-profit agency in Abbotsford, was given the award for the category Non-Profit Organization of the Year. Archway Community Services provides social services that refugees, senior citizens, new immigrants, and the unhoused use daily.

“We’re honoured to be recognized for our services,” said Rod Santiago, CEO of Archway Community Services. ”We want to say thank you to our staff, volunteers, donors, and funders who are so dedicated to making our community a better place.”

Smaller local businesses also received awards, such as home-based business Walk-in Tubs Fraser Valley.

“We started this home-based business two years ago,” said Bruce Perkins, President of Walk in Tubs Fraser Valley. “I think we were given the award for having installed hundreds of walk-in tubs and showers. We are helping our senior citizens live independently in the homes they love.”

The Winner of the Established Business of the Year (more than 20 employees’ category) award was Clearway Car and Truck Rentals. Clearway assisted with the clean-up following the November 2021 flooding of Sumas Prairie.

“We are always looking at how we can do more, that’s why we stepped up during the floods,” said Jeremy Olson,COO of Clearway Car and Truck Rentals. “We jumped in right away using our resources alongside a police escort.” Olson also believed that the way employees are treated in his organization had something to do with the award, “Our staff was motivated to help because we treat them right. The way we treat our staff is the way those staff will in turn treat our customers and community.”
