WONOWON, B.C. – A spokesperson for the BC Highway Patrol says dashcam footage and additional witnesses will be needed after a three-vehicle collision northwest of Fort St. John claimed the life of a 27-year-old Alberta man on Monday.

According to a statement from BCHP spokesperson Corporal Michael McLaughlin, police were called to Highway 97 northbound after a head-on collision involving a green Ford F350 pickup and a black Dodge Caravan Monday at around noon.

Cpl. McLaughlin says the force of the initial crash propelled the Ford pickup and the Dodge Caravan into the side of a logging truck.

“This collision was severe. The driver of the black Dodge Caravan, a 27-year-old man from Grande Prairie, Alberta, did not survive,” said Cpl. McLaughlin. “The driver of the F350 has been arrested for impaired operation of a motor vehicle causing death. Police need witnesses and dash-camera video of the events before and after the crash to determine exactly what happened.”

Cpl. McLaughlin says the black Dodge Caravan and the green Ford F350 both had Alberta licence plates.

The arrested driver was a 25-year-old man from Swift Current, Saskatchewan and he has been taken to hospital for serious injuries. The driver of the logging truck was unhurt.

Anyone who witnessed the events leading up to the collision, or who has dash-camera or other video, is asked to call BC Highway Patrol – Fort St. John at 250-787-8140 and quote file (3403) 2026-733.
