Drunk driver gets 90-day driving ban after car flips over on Lougheed Highway near Mission

MISSION — Mission RCMP have removed one impaired driver from local roads after his car struck the center median on Lougheed Highway last week.

On January 16, at around 11 p.m., a driver called police after seeing a black Smart car on its side on one of the Lougheed’s westbound lanes near Hayward Street.

Police then found the uninjured driver standing outside, who told them that he was looking at a passing train when the incident happened.

An officer noted that he had slurred speech and his breath smelled of liquor.

He failed two roadside tests and was issued a 90-day driving ban, with his car impounded for 30 days.

Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to call Mission RCMP and quote file 26-697.

On the Lougheed Highway a few days prior, on January 13, RCMP’s Traffic Services pulled over a 19-year-old who only carried an expired Ontario driver’s license and admitted to drinking alcohol earlier that day.

The driver from Abbotsford failed two roadside screening tests and was also issued a 90-day driving prohibition and a 30-day impound on his company vehicle.

Another roadside incident that week included the arrest of a 41-year-old Surrey man who was prohibited from driving.

Mission RCMP responded to a total of 302 calls for service in the week of January 12 to January 18.
