HOPE — Construction is well underway for a supportive housing project in Hope that was initially introduced nearly four years ago.

BC Housing, in partnership with the District of Hope, Fraser Health and the Hope and Area Transition Society (HATS), is building a modular 56-unit housing development that also includes 15 shelter beds and 15 extreme weather response spaces at 1275 7th Avenue, near the Fraser Canyon Hospital.

Hope Council approved an Official Community Plan amendment and rezoning for the site in October 2022.

The supportive housing units will include self-contained studio homes, long-term housing options, hot meals and more.

The 24/7 shelter will provide temporary accommodation to meet immediate needs and essential support services, such as health care and housing program referrals.

Adults aged 19 and older who meet the requirements for income, homelessness and required supports would be eligible to apply for residence. Hope residents would be given priority, and HATS would work with local service providers to select tenants.

The new housing was initially proposed following results from the 2020 point-in-time count, which identified 69 unhoused people in Hope – up from 42 in 2017.
