CHILLIWACK — Residents in the Fraser Valley may have to stay away from the river as heavy rain is expected across western B.C. this coming week.

The BC River Forecast Centre has issued a high streamflow advisory for the Lower Fraser, including areas around the Fraser Valley, North and Metro Vancouver, due to a series of atmospheric rivers forecasted for coastal B.C.

Heavy rain is expected from midday Sunday through Monday across the South Coast and Lower Mainland. Significant snowmelt may also run off into the rivers as temperatures rise through the weekend and into next week.

The City of Chilliwack asks residents to exercise caution around rapid waters and avoid recreational activities near rivers or streams with high flow.
