Structure fire in Langley claims life of 15-year-old: RCMP

LANGLEY — Mounties in Langley say a structure fire on 248 Street early Wednesday morning has claimed the life of a 15-year-old youth.

According to a statement from Langley RCMP spokesperson Sgt. Zynal Sharoom, police were called to a reported structure fire in the 6500 block of 248 Street in Langley at 6:57 a.m.

Firefighters from the Township of Langley Fire Department arrived to find the structure fully engulfed in flames. Tragically, a 15-year-old youth was located deceased inside the home, Sgt. Sharoom confirmed.

“This is a heartbreaking tragedy, and our thoughts are with the family and friends of the deceased during this incredibly difficult time,” said Sgt. Sharoom.

Police say the cause of the fire remains under investigation, and there is no indication of criminality at this time. The BC Coroners Service and fire investigators continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the tragic structure fire.
