CHILLIWACK — A spokesperson for the Chilliwack RCMP detachment says police investigated a report of damage to glass at a downtown Chilliwack bank last week, but there’s no indication the damage was caused by any shots discharged from a firearm.

Fraser Valley Today received a tip from a Chilliwack resident about a police presence at the Royal Bank of Canada branch at 9296 Main Street on Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 31.

The resident told FVT that she witnessed what appeared to be two holes in the exterior of the bank.

One RCMP member was observed taking pictures of the exterior of the bank.

Fraser Valley Today reached out to Chilliwack RCMP spokesperson Sgt. Alexandra Greenley (formerly Mulvihill) and learned that police attended the bank for a report of a possible bullet hole.

“Members did attend on Dec 31st for a report of a possible bullet hole in the glass of the Royal Bank,” Sgt. Greenley said. “The hole was noticed by a customer and reported to staff. Staff have no idea when the incident may have happened as the bank had been closed a lot over the holidays.”

The frontline officer, and an officer from the Forensic Identification Section, did not see, or find, any evidence to indicate that the hole was caused by a bullet, Sgt. Greenley said.
