CHILLIWACK — Under grey skies, perhaps symbolic of the sombre ceremony, Chilliwack residents recognized the sacrifices of those who have given their lives for Canada.

More than one thousand people gathered for a service and parade through a part of the downtown leading to the ceremony at the cenotaph along Main Street and Yale Road. Many wore toques and scarfs in the chilly conditions to witness the first public Remembrance Day ceremony held in Chilliwack without COVID-19 restrictions since 2019.

The ceremony signalled somewhat of a return to normal in many ways, including the traditional playing of the “Last Post” at the eleventh hour on the eleventh day of the eleventh month and the reading of Flanders Field.
