Police looking to solve mysterious crash near Hope that tragically killed a 21-year-old Vancouver woman
HOPE/COQUIHALLA HIGHWAY — The BC Highway Patrol is appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage to solve a mysterious motor vehicle incident northeast of Hope that sadly killed a 21-year-old Vancouver woman.
According to a statement from BCHP spokesperson Corporal Michael McLaughlin, a white Toyota Yaris in the southbound lane of Highway 5 went down an embankment on Saturday, Dec. 27 between 11:50 a.m. and 12:20 p.m. The Yaris had been traveling southbound between the Sowaqua chain-up area and Othello Road.
The 21-year-old Vancouver woman was the driver and lone occupant of the vehicle. She was taken to hospital but died two days later, Cpl. McLaughlin said.
“This crash occurred in broad daylight, but police have not been able to locate a single witness so far,” said Cpl. McLaughlin. “The driver was never able to tell police what happened. We need witnesses and video to make sure there’s no criminal cause.”
