Abbotsford speeder fined hundreds and has vehicle impounded over Christmas

ABBOTSFORD — Abbotsford police are warning last-minute shoppers that there could be consequences for those racing around on the streets to complete their last-minute shopping.

In a social media post, AbbyPD officers reported stopping a vehicle travelling more than 90 km/h over the posted speed limit on the Sumas Bypass on Sunday.

A traffic officer was able to pull a vehicle over after clocking it at 163 km/h in a 70 km/h zone. Police say the driver was a 17-year-old with a Class 7 license. The vehicle was impounded for seven days and $592 in fines were issued.

Abbotsford police say they have impounded 415 vehicles for excessive speeding in 2025, an average of more than one per day.
