CHILLIWACK — A 43-year-old Chilliwack man was taken into custody Saturday morning after a standoff lasting several hours on Cessna Drive in Chilliwack.

According to a statement from Agassiz RCMP detachment commander spokesperson Sgt. Darryl Peppler, Chilliwack RCMP members were called to the 46000 block of Cessna Drive Saturday morning for the report of an assault.

When officers arrived, police met with the victim outside the residence, but the suspect remained inside the home.

Sgt. Peppler says Chilliwack RCMP members contained the house and activated the Emergency Response Team (ERT). After several attempts of calling out to the accused, the suspect presented himself to the door and was arrested without incident.

The 43-year-old Chilliwack man was taken into custody and is currently awaiting his next court appearance, Sgt. Peppler said.

Some Chilliwack residents were woken by sirens Saturday morning as multiple police cars headed toward the home on Cessna Drive. At around 9:30 a.m., locals reported over a dozen police/Emergency Response Team vehicles surrounding the Cessna Drive home, located near the Chilliwack School District building. Photos and videos sent to Fraser Valley Today showed multiple armed officers standing by with rifles present. One ERT officer was also seen carrying a painter’s ladder, which is often used to breach entry points on the second floor.
