CHILLIWACK — Chilliwack police and community members have been cutting down on property crime ahead of the busy shopping season.

RCMP officers with the Community Response Team partnered with the Organized Retail Crime Association of BC on the “Boost and Bust” initiative – a project that helped police identify shoplifters at local retailers and suspects with outstanding warrants.

“We encourage the public to always remove personal and valuable belongings from vehicles and to report all suspicious or criminal activity to police,” said Corporal Berthier Kyobela with the Upper Fraser Valley RCMP.

“Reports allow us to respond in a timely manner and to identify suspects and trends.”

Volunteers from Crime Prevention Services also handed out auto-crime notices at ICBC locations and mall parking lots across the city.

The notices detailed how to secure vehicles and property, with drivers able to use the reverse side as a “NOTHING TO STEAL” sign on their rear-view mirror.

You can find more free notices at ICBC Autoplan insurance locations and at the Chilliwack RCMP detachment while supplies last.
