HOPE — Folks between the Lower Mainland and Southern Interior for the holidays may have to use an alternative route as repairs continue on a recent washout along Highway 3, 42 kilometres east of the Highway 3/5 junction.

On Wednesday, December 16, water from heavy rain washed away a 50-metre section of the highway, damaging 11 sites between Hope and Manning Park.

In an update Friday, the Ministry of Transportation and Transit reports that several weeks of work would be needed to bring access back to the stretch.

A more precise timeline will be available in the coming days as more assessments and work are completed.
