Environment Canada warns of even more rain coming to Chilliwack, Abbotsford and Hope
CHILLIWACK — Just when the eastern Fraser Valley got hammered by well over 95 mm of rain on Wednesday, Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement warning of additional precipitation in the forecast over the next 3-5 days.
According to a statement issued at 6:06 p.m. Thursday evening, Environment Canada says more rainfall is in store for the days ahead as the saturated Fraser Valley grapples with road closures and evacuation orders, mostly in Abbotsford but a few have emerged in Chilliwack.
According to Environment and Climate Change Canada, Hope Airport reported totals between 140 and 145 mm of rain over the course of Wednesday, while Cultus Lake saw 125 millimetres, the Chilliwack Airport reported 110 millimetres and Agassiz saw 103 mm of rainfall.
The warning says a relatively weak frontal system is pushing into the Lower Mainland and will bring light rain Thursday night and into Friday. While the precipitation is expected to intensify Friday evening, rainfall totals are predicted to be relatively light. Amount totals will amount to between 10 to 20 mm for western and central sections of the Fraser Valley, with 20 to 40 mm possible near Hope.
