Coquihalla Highway reopens north of Hope

CHILLIWACK — DriveBC is reporting the reopening of the Coquihalla Highway north of Hope, restoring a vital transportation link between the B.C. Lower Mainland and the B.C. Interior.

The road was closed in both directions when an atmospheric river system poured rain over the region Wednesday (Dec. 10). The Hope airport reported receiving approximately 140 mm of rain Wednesday.

An aerial assessment of the highway between Merritt and Hope was conducted early Thursday and revealed two areas of concern, according to the Ministry of Transportation.

Efforts to clear the road were completed by the afternoon and the road was reopened at approximately 3:30 p.m.
