ABBOTSFORD — The University of the Fraser Valley is looking to make class sign-ups easier for non-credit learners with a new update to its registration system.

Students in continuing education (CE) and the Industry Services department will be able to use Extended Learning, an “Amazon-style” online enrollment process to browse courses, add them to a cart, and check out anytime, anywhere.

CE Director Carolyn MacLaren says the process is particularly helpful for CE students who often juggle multiple obligations, such as balancing school with nine-to-five jobs.

“I’m very happy we’ll be able to remove a good number of barriers, and if we want to increase the number of students who are enrolling, making it easier for them to register is a positive step.”

The system also allows administrators to track a student’s progress towards their credential.

“It will allow us to have much tighter relationships with our students and steward their academic journey in a way that academic students have long had access to through their online grad plan,” MacLaren explained.

Extended Learning will roll out to all non-credit students in phases, starting with the Powerline Technician program and the CE Nursing Unit Clerk, Medical Laboratory Assistant and Legal Administrative Assistant programs.

“Whether someone is upgrading their skills or taking their first step into post-secondary education, this simpler and more accessible non-credit registration system helps us open those doors,” said UFV President James Mandigo.
