ABBOTSFORD — A couple of men went from throwing hands to shaking hands at an Abbotsford McDonald’s after an AbbyPD officer broke up the fight with pepper spray Friday night (Nov. 28).

Videos circulating on social media show two individuals yelling at each other, with one man swinging a chair before police intervened.

Patrol officers with the Abbotsford Police Department responded to a fight inside the McDonald’s on South Fraser Way near Sevenoaks Mall at around 11:41 p.m. and found the two men in a physical altercation.

“Despite police presence and repeated verbal commands to stop, both individuals continued to assault each other,” said AbbyPD in a statement to Fraser Valley Today.

“To gain the compliance of both men, one officer deployed OC spray (pepper spray).”

OC spray is typically used by officers to incapacitate non-compliant subjects from a safe distance temporarily.

After getting sprayed, both men “became compliant” and were taken into custody without further incident.

Police have reviewed all evidence from independent witnesses and spoken with both individuals.

No criminal charges were pressed. Both men then apologized to each other and shook hands.

They were then decontaminated at the scene, and one person was taken to hospital for a minor cut received before police arrived.
