Over 330 runners take part in nearly perfect conditions for Give’R Take 30 race, raising thousands for charitable causes in Chilliwack

CULTUS LAKE — In contrast to the soggy, sloppy conditions from last year, the 2025 Give’R Take 30 trail race in October featured nearly perfect conditions of overcast skies and mild temperatures to usher in fast trail conditions.

Over 330 participants took part in the annual fall race around Cultus Lake on October 18, marked by a new course record from the top female finisher. The event sold out within days of registration.

Founded in 2003 by Clarence Wiens, this year’s contest was highlighted by three events: a 30-kilometer solo run (173 runners), 73 two-person relay teams in men, women and mixed divisions, and the Give’R Take 1.0-kilometer Kids Trail Race that had 18 eager kids smashing the trails of Cultus Lake.

Start of the kids race.

The solo run challenges runners to travel approximately 30 kilometres on various trails and some roadways, starting and finishing at Main Beach in Cultus Lake, British Columbia.

Funds raised from registrations and sponsorships support local outdoor recreation groups and scholarships for students in the Chilliwack School District. Over the past 22 years, race organizers have distributed thousands of dollars to non-profits in the community.

The Around the Lake Give ‘R Take Trail Race Society is made of committee volunteers who organize the annual trail race. It’s only been canceled twice – once in 2016 and again in 2020 – due to extreme weather and COVID 19, respectively. Funds generated through registrations and sponsorships have enabled race organizers to distribute thousands of dollars over 22 years to local, non-profit organizations that support outdoor recreation, as well as $1,000 scholarships for students in the Chilliwack School District. Last year alone, the society distributed $11,000 to the Chilliwack community.

The top male and female solo finishers received unique wood-burned walking sticks carved by local artisan Henry Remple.
