CHILLIWACK – An online appeal has been launched to support a Chilliwack-area family after their daughter suffered a fall that left her with a traumatic brain injury.

According to the text of a GoFundMe initiated by Mike Browne and Christine Friesen, Alexis (Lexi) MacGregor had a devastating fall in October 2026 that resulted in a serious traumatic brain injury. She was rushed by air ambulance to BC Children’s Hospital in Vancouver where she was admitted to intensive care.

The GoFundMe says her injuries were life-threatening, and physicians were not sure about her chances of recovery or the long term effects of her injuries.

The GoFundMe was launched because Dayton MacGregor, Lexi’s dad, has not been able to work while caring for his daughter on a full-time basis.

“Since the accident, Dayton has remained faithfully at his daughter’s side, day and night. As a real estate agent, Dayton is unable to work while dedicating his time to caring for his daughter,” the GoFundMe said. “This is where we can help make a difference. We are organizing this fundraiser to come alongside Dayton, helping ease the financial pressures that accompany such a life changing event. Contributions will help cover basic living expenses, meals, transportation and everyday necessities, allowing them to focus their time and energy on Lexi’s healing and recovery.”

On October 13, Lexi received an MRI test that revealed the scope and severity of her brain injury, the GoFundMe states. Doctors indicated that her speech, understanding and other abilities could be permanently impacted. At the time, her family was told that recovery would be a long and uncertain journey.

“But Lexi has been showing everyone just how determined she is!” the GoFundMe said. “By October 15, her breathing tube had been removed, and on October 16, she was transferred out of intensive care. Over the following weeks, she began speaking, eating, sitting up and taking her first steps. By early November, she was walking, climbing stairs with supervision and making remarkable progress in rehabilitation.”

However, Lexi still has another critically-important surgery to replace a portion of her skull, with continued rehabilitation to follow at Sunny Hill Health Centre, a specialized pediatric rehabilitation facility in Vancouver.

“There is a long road ahead, but every day brings new reasons for hope,” the online appeal stated. “For those who don’t know Lexi, she is a wonderfully creative, strong and energetic young girl with an incredible spirit. She is deeply loved by her parents, her brother Colton, and a beautiful extended family who are surrounding her with love and encouragement.”
