Maple Ridge RCMP warns residents about new credit card scam
MAPLE RIDGE — Mounties in Maple Ridge are alerting residents about a card pickup fraud that’s been making the rounds in the community.
RCMP say they have received “multiple” complaints about residents being contacted by scammers posing as financial institutions or credit card companies trying to arrange the physical pickup of their bank or credit cards directly from their doorstep.
The fraudsters would usually claim urgent, apparent account compromise, using pressure tactics and partial access to account details to sound real and catch people off guard.
“Frauds can pop up anywhere, anytime,” said Maple Ridge RCMP Constable Avinesh Bali. “As difficult as it can be sometimes, residents need to remain vigilant and take simple steps to protect themselves. Report all suspicious activity and please touch base with friends or family who may be more susceptible.”
