Unlocking these new spaces won’t just be beneficial for parents, it will mean less shuffling for kids, keeping them in a welcoming space they are already comfortable in, and allowing them to seamlessly continue their day until it’s time to go home.

The new spaces are funded through a $5 million investment to support renovations and the repurposing of existing space in school buildings to create new child care spaces.

The province is also providing districts with funding towards operating costs, as well as funds to purchase new equipment and toys. School districts will be able to apply this Fall for additional funding to create more board-operated school-aged care programs over the next two years.

We know there is more work to do to make child care more accessible and affordable for everyone, work we will continue to advance.

As you are getting your family ready to head back to school, now is also a good time to make sure your kids are up to date on their routine vaccinations to help protect them from preventable diseases like measles, mumps and rubella, polio, pertussis (whooping cough), meningitis, and chickenpox. Getting vaccinated helps keep children healthy, and keeps them learning in school, exploring with friends at recess, and playing the sports they love.

I am wishing all families around B.C. a safe, fun, and healthy return to school this fall, and an exciting year ahead.
