CHILLIWACK — RCMP say one man is dead following a mid-air collision between two planes in B.C.’s Fraser Valley.

Mounties say in a statement issued Tuesday that crews have started the recovery process for the man’s body and his Cessna 172 from a pond in Chilliwack, where it crashed after hitting another Cessna in the air on Monday.

The Transportation Safety Board is investigating the crash, which was reported to RCMP at around 5:20 p.m.

The RCMP statement did not give a possible cause for the collision, but says its members are supporting the safety board in its investigation into the cause of the crash, which happened near the Chilliwack Airport.
