AGASSIZ — Mounties from Agassiz say they’ve had a busy few days on the road last week, from June 8 to 14.

Several drivers were taken off the road after both proactive policing efforts and residents’ reports.

One notable incident included a drunk driver who was seen making a number of traffic violations before an officer pulled them over.

“Upon stopping the vehicle, the driver refused to comply with the officers and attempted to avoid police by hiding in the back seat,” said Corporal Carmen Kiener with the Upper Fraser Valley RCMP. “After considerable effort by officers, the individual exited the vehicle but became combative and resisted arrest.”

Charges are being recommended, and the driver is set to appear in court.

Another driver was also pulled over on Highway 1 after being clocked going at 147 km/h in a 100 km/h zone. That driver then received a speeding ticket and had their vehicle seized.

Police also conducted a third traffic stop that week, on a car known to be involved with a man wanted out of Agassiz. The man, who was driving, was arrested without incident and has since been held for a court appearance.

RCMP then tackled three property crimes, including a camper in the Bridal Falls area that was broken into overnight, with some personal items taken.

There was also another break-in at a home on Key Road.

“Police remind the public to: Always lock vehicles and avoid leaving valuables inside, regardless of location. Drive safely and adhere to speed limits. Plan ahead for a safe ride home and never drive while impaired.”

Investigation into that incident is ongoing.

Officers responded to a total of 70 calls for service, according to the Agassiz RCMP’s weekly snapshot.
