Police attend Chilliwack homeless camp to retrieve stolen E-bike after owner saw it listed online

Police say individuals at the encampment were uncooperative in confirming how the bike ended up there.

The incident was one of 122 calls for service that police fielded in the Hope RCMP detachment for the week of Monday, June 1 through to Sunday, June 7.

In other notable incidents in the greater Hope area this past week:

Police were dispatched for a fully engulfed camper trailer located about two kilometres up Jones Lake Forest Service Road. Corporal Kiener says the trailer was completely destroyed and debris from the trailer was scattered in the surrounding area. No identifying information was located to confirm ownership of the trailer. Initial observations suggest the trailer may have been abandoned and partially dismantled prior to the fire. Nobody was located in the area, Cpl. Kiener said.
Police say multiple vehicles were reportedly targeted overnight on Edwards Drive this past week. One complainant reported that their unlocked vehicle was entered and several items were stolen, including keys and personal accessories. No damage was reported and a canvas of the area did not locate the stolen items or evidence to identify the unknown suspects.
A man reported that his vehicle, parked overnight at a business on Silverview Road, had been broken into. Video surveillance showed an individual arriving in the area on a bicycle and checking vehicle doors. The suspect accessed the unlocked vehicle and stole a large electronic from the vehicle before fleeing.

“These incidents serve as a reminder of the importance of ensuring vehicles are locked at all times, regardless of their location,” Cpl. Kiener said.
