Police need help locating 57-year-old Mission man charged in assault on taxi driver
MAPLE RIDGE – Mounties in Maple Ridge need help locating a 57-year-old man from Mission who has been charged for his alleged role in an unprovoked assault on a taxi driver that happened in Maple Ridge in September 2025.
According to a statement from police, Link Gaetz has been charged with assault contrary to Section 266 of the Criminal Code, and mischief under $5,000, Section 430 (4) of the Criminal Code.
On September 17, 2025, at approximately 2:45 p.m, Ridge Meadows RCMP received reports of a taxi driver being assaulted near the intersection of Sheldrake Court and Fern Crescent in Maple Ridge. Officers learned that the driver had picked up the suspect at an establishment in the 12900 block of 232nd Street. The driver was then directed to a location before the suspect abruptly told the driver to stop and immediately began assaulting him. The victim received injuries to his face due to multiple punches that connected. In the process, the suspect also tried to break the CCTV camera in the taxi and proceeded to break the vehicle’s windshield before fleeing the area.
In the months that followed the assault, police say they appreciated the public’s assistance in helping them to identify the suspect.
