Curbside collection update

City of Chilliwack extends collection period for old bins – and offers residents a solution

CHILLIWACK – The City of Chilliwack hopes to stem some of the fallout from the ongoing curbside collection debacle by extending the pickup dates for old bins.

According to an update dated Monday, May 25 on its website, the city now realizes its original goal of having old curbside bins collected by the final week of May can’t be accomplished while E360S, the new contractor, struggles to keep up.

“Thank you for your patience as we continue to work with the contractor while they make adjustments with the goal to achieve consistent same-day curbside collection for all routes,” the city wrote online.

For the week of May 25, E360S will continue to operate additional collection resources.

The old bin pickup will be extended until Monday, June 8.

“Please continue to set out your old bins the weekday after your regular collection day. If more changes are made to the pick up days for old bins, the City will notify residents through a Chilliwack Curbside Collection App notification,” the city wrote on its website.

Residents that would prefer to drop off their old bins can do so from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 30 in the north parking lot of the Chilliwack Coliseum (45323 Hodgins Avenue). The city says E360S will have staff and box trucks available to accept the bins.

The city says pink bin delivery begins late this week. A different contractor will deliver the pink bins and will not take curbside collection crews away from their routes. Flexible plastics collection will begin the week of June 22. Residents will be provided with one 57L pink bin and lid for flexible plastics collection. To maximize space inside your bin, residents are asked to bundle and compact flexible plastics inside a clear plastic bag (ex. a bread or produce bag) before placing them inside the bin.

Residents who don’t have a grey bin for glass can buy them for $5 at City Hall in the Finance Department (8550 Young Road).

In the meantime, the city asks residents to continue to report missed collection to E360S at chilliwack@e360s.ca or during business hours, call 778-860-3864. If you are unable to reach E360S, or if your materials have not been collected within three business days of reporting the missed collection to E360S, please contact the City’s Curbside line directly at curbside@chilliwack.com or 604.793.2787 (press 0 to speak to City staff).
