Cops for Cancer Tour de Valley team gears up for 2026 fundraiser

ABBOTSFORD — Abbotsford residents may see a parade of cyclists roll up through their neighbourhood today (May 24) as riders in the Fraser Valley train for this year’s Cops for Cancer fundraiser.

The Tour de Valley team will be completing an escorted ride through the city with motorcycle officers from 9 a.m. to noon, with residents invited to a tour event at Lully’s Hot Dog Stand at Canadian Tire until roughly 2 p.m.

Four AbbyPD officers will be taking part in this year’s ride, for a total of more than 20 law enforcement, first responders and guest riders from across the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley.

“What makes Cops for Cancer so special are the hearts behind it,” said Samantha Falconer, director for Cops for Cancer at the Canadian Cancer Society.

“Every rider takes on this challenge with intention, spending countless hours training hard, leaning on one another, and riding to give hope to children and families whose lives have been affected by cancer.”

Mason Furdal, a childhood cancer survivor, is riding with the Chilliwack River Valley Fire Department this year.

“I had acute myeloid leukemia as a child, so Cops for Cancer has been part of my life since I was a kid,” Furdal said. “[S]eeing firsthand the impact the Tour has on kids and families makes this feel like an opportunity to give back to the same community that supported my family and I during some of the hardest moments of our lives.”

The Tour de Valley Team will set out in Surrey on September 14 and end on September 19. It has raised over $59,000 at the time of writing – around 20 per cent of the way to its fundraising goal of $285,000.
