ABBOTSFORD — AbbyPD is urging residents to stay safe on the road after two pedestrian collisions Friday (May 1), one of which is now fatal.

Just after 1 p.m., patrol officers responded to the incident at the intersection of Marshall Road and Ware Street.

An investigation found that a mother was pushing her stroller through a marked crosswalk when a driver who was turning left failed to yield and struck the stroller.

The child got out with minor abrasions.

The driver stayed on scene and cooperated with police. They were issued violation tickets for failing to yield to a pedestrian and failing to stop at a yellow light at an intersection.

Impairment was not a factor in this collision.

Sgt. Paul Walker with the Abbotsford Police Department says both of yesterday’s incidents involved pedestrians who were struck while within marked crosswalks and had the right of way.

He urges drivers to slow down and watch for pedestrians at intersections and areas with increased foot traffic, especially in low light or changing conditions.

“A moment of inattention can have life‑altering consequences,” said Sgt. Walker. “By staying alert and making safe choices, we can all help reduce the risk of serious injury and keep our roads safer for everyone.”
