Inmate hospitalized after assault at Agassiz prison

AGASSIZ — Staff at an Agassiz prison say an inmate was taken to hospital after an assault this week.

The victim was assaulted while serving a sentence at the medium-security Mountain Institution on Monday, April 27.

Staff members then evaluated the injured inmate and took them to hospital for treatment.

The inmate has since returned to the facility.

Agassiz RCMP are working with the institution to investigate the incident.

“Appropriate actions” have been taken regarding the identified assailant, says the Correctional Service of Canada.

No staff members or other inmates were injured during the incident.

CSC claims it will review the circumstances of the incident and take measures to prevent the event from happening again.
