ABBOTSFORD — AbbyPD is issuing an internet safety reminder after an Abbotsford resident lost a huge sum of cash to an online scammer.
Police say the suspect was claiming to be “someone famous” when they reached out to the victim online and developed a relationship.
The resident ended up sending roughly $40,000 before realizing the person was not who they claimed to be.
“Be especially cautious of anyone requesting money, gift cards, or cryptocurrency—particularly if you have never met them in person,” said the Abbotsford Police Department.
