UPDATE: The BC Wildfire Service now says the 53-hectare fire south of Boston Bar in the Fraser Canyon is being held.

Original story:

FRASER CANYON – A wildfire north of Hope in the Fraser Canyon has grown in size the past couple days.

BC Wildfire Service now reports that the Ferrabee fire about 2.5 km south of Hell’s Gate is 53 hectares, up from a previous mark of 36 hectares earlier this week.

The provincial wildfire agency says upwards of 23 ground personnel have responded alongside aerial support.

BCWS says a successful planned ignition was conducted on Monday, April 27, which enabled crews to better control the burn severity along the rock slope, bring the fire’s edge down from inoperable terrain, and enhance containment lines.

As BCWS and local media have stated repeatedly, the wildfire does not currently pose a threat to nearby structures or buildings, critical infrastructure or public safety. Periodic lane closures could occur for motorists travelling through the Fraser Canyon on nearby Highway 1.
