CHILLIWACK – Mounties in Chilliwack dealt with at least three combative individuals during multiple incidents this past week, two of which involved driving impairment.

According to a weekly recap provided by Chilliwack RCMP spokesperson Corporal Carmen Kiener, police responded on Thursday, April 23 to a report of a vehicle in a ditch near Hope River Road and Kitchen Road. Police located a man located nearby and later identified him as the driver of the vehicle. Corporal Kiener says the man exhibited signs of impairment. While officers were conducting an impaired driving investigation, the man became uncooperative and assaulted an officer. He was arrested for assaulting a police officer and held in custody for court. The man received an immediate roadside prohibition, and his vehicle was impounded after being towed out of the ditch.

Over the weekend on Saturday, April 25, an RCMP member observed a man riding a bicycle along Vedder Road and recognized him as having an outstanding arrest warrant. Police say the man resisted police when approached. Once safely taken into custody, he was found in possession of break‑in tools, contrary to his court‑ordered conditions. He was arrested and held for court on the arrest warrant as well as breaching his conditions.

In the early morning hours of Sunday, April 26, police initiated a traffic stop on Vedder Road. Police allege the man displayed signs of impairment and refused to provide breath samples to police. He became combative with RCMP members and was held in custody until he was sober. The man was served with driving ban, and his vehicle was impounded.
