ABBOTSFORD – A 20-year-old driver in Abbotsford could have his license permanently suspended after he was caught at three times the speed limit Saturday night in Abbotsford with alcohol in his system, all while trying a switcharoo that epically failed.

According to the Abbotsford Police Department, plainclothes patrol officers observed two vehicles street racing along Sumas Way and South Fraser Way on Saturday night at approximately 10:30 p.m. Police say speeds reached a shocking 150 km/h in a posted 50 zone.

On April 25 at approximately 10:30 p.m., plainclothes AbbyPD patrol officers observed two vehicles street racing along Sumas Way and South Fraser Way. Speeds reached a staggering 150 km/h in a posted 50 km/h zone. When officers stopped one of the vehicles, a black Kia, police allege the driver attempted to move into the back seat in an apparent effort to avoid responsibility.

Officers saw the whole switcharoo happen. Once they approached his vehicle, they observed that his legs were still stretched across the centre console.

The 20-year-old Class 7 N driver was issued tickets for excessive speeding, driving without consideration and failing to display his N sign. He also received a 12-hour suspension for violating the conditions of his driver’s licence after having alcohol in his body. His vehicle was also impounded.

“Once the Superintendent of Motor Vehicles reviews the matter, the driver will likely be losing his licence altogether,” AbbyPD said. “Although the second vehicle involved wasn’t stopped that night, it’s only a matter of time till we pay you a visit.”
