Motorist strikes BC Hydro pole, causing road closure in Chilliwack Tuesday morning

CHILLIWACK – Chilliwack first responders were called to Hope River Road Tuesday morning after a vehicle struck a hydro pole on a rural country road, the second incident of its type in the area in just over a week.

According to scanner traffic and the Pulse Point app, first responders were notified about a motor vehicle incident at approximately 10:23 a.m.

Firefighters on scene told emergency dispatch that a hydro pole was struck and a communications pole across the road was also impacted.

All occupants were out of the vehicle, firefighters told dispatch. A motorist declined medical treatment. As a result, BC EHS paramedics were advised to stand down.

Firefighters and RCMP wound up closing the 47300 block of Hope River Road.

BC Hydro crews were asked to attend. Firefighters later learned that hydro personnel had an expected time of arrival of 45 minutes.

A picture at the scene showed a heavily damaged vehicle on the side of the road.

Last Monday, April 20, Chilliwack first responders were called to Camp River Road in Rosedale after a vehicle rolled over and took out a hydro pole. According to scanner traffic, the traffic collision happened at approximately 9:45 a.m. Monday morning, Apr. 20, in the 49000 block of Camp River Road. Similarly, hydro crews were called to repair a pole and the road was closed during the repairs.
