Abbotsford MLA calls for end to violent, dangerous encampments along Highway 1
ABBOTSFORD – Following two murders in the past month at two separate encampments along Highway 1, Abbotsford South MLA Bruce Banman is calling for an end to dangerous homeless camps in Abbotsford.
Banman’s remarks come after a fire at the Peardonville Road homeless encampment Friday evening (Apr. 24) left a 47-year-old man dead. A 49-year-old man, Ryan Easton, has been charged with manslaughter in that case.

Back on March 23, a 69-year-old man succumbed to his injuries after a late-night shooting at an Abbotsford park-and-ride lot that is home to a large homeless encampment. The victim was a resident of the Whatcom Road homeless encampment. He was taken to the hospital but couldn’t overcome his wounds and died. His name has not been released.
