Man arrested after homicide at Abbotsford homeless camp Friday evening

ABBOTSFORD — Police are investigating a homicide that occurred during a fire at the Peardonville homeless encampment Friday evening (Apr. 24).

At around 6:09 p.m., AbbyPD patrol officers responded to the fire within the 31500 block of South Fraser Way.

Police found that the fire was limited to a single wooden structure, and after suppression efforts by Abbotsford firefighters, a man was found dead.

One man has been arrested and remains in police custody as a result.

Abbotsford police confirm that the public is not at risk as this was an isolated, targeted incident.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) will now be taking over the investigation.
